The ranking of the best-selling cars in the global market for the first quarter of 2021 has been announced, Trend reports citing Russian media.

The world's largest car manufacturers increased their sales in 2021.

The cars of the Toyota brand accounted for 11.3 percent of the global market in the first quarter of 2021. Toyota's sales in the first quarter of this year amounted to 2.06 million units, which is 8.3 percent more compared to a year earlier.

The second place is occupied by the manufacturer of the Volkswagen brand - its share in the world market in the first quarter was 6.6 percent, and 1.2 million vehicles were sold during this period (an increase of 6.1 percent).

The third position of the rating was taken by the manufacturer of the Ford brand, which is the only company in the top ten that did not report sales growth - 1.01 million vehicles sold. It is followed by Hyundai with sales of 950,000 vehicles (an increase of 13.8 percent on annual basis) and Nissan – 885,000 units (an increase of 9.4 percent in annual terms).

The sixth position in the ranking is occupied by the brand Honda with a 13.6-percent increase in vehicle sales (860,000 units), followed by Chevrolet with 742,000 units (an increase of 1.2 percent on annual basis).

At the same time, KIA Motors sold 658,000 units, which is a growth of 3.2 percent on annual basis.

The ninth and tenth places in the ranking were taken by Mercedes and BMW with sales of 608,000 (an increase of 12.9 percent) and 516,000 units (an increase of 19.1 percent), respectively.

The Japanese Toyota brand benefits from a strategy of concentrating the most powerful lineup in the world with one brand. While other manufacturers are moving towards consolidating different brands into a single "portfolio" to reach more customer segments, Toyota has diversified only slightly within one brand, with Lexus in the premium segment and Daihatsu in the small, low-cost segment.

Over the past ten years, Toyota has held the leading position in the ranking of the best-selling car brands in the world.
