First electric bus put into operation in Iran

The first Iranian-made electric bus was put into operation in the Mashhad city of the Razavi Khorasan Province (northeastern Iran) today on June 2, Trend reports citing Fars News Agency.

According to the report, a presentation was held in Mashhad city in this regard.

The first electric bus in Iran was produced by the Mapna Group. About 50 percent of the financing for the manufacturing of the electric bus was provided by the Mashhad Municipality and 50 percent by the Mapna Group. The electric bus cost 68 billion rials (about $1.62 million), the report said.

“The length of the electric bus is 12 meters and has a capacity of 19.5 tons. The electric bus can cover a distance of about 300 kilometers daily with charging one time,” the report said.

Speaking at the event, the Head of Mashhad City Municipality Mohammad Reza Kalaei said that a contract has been signed between Mashhad City Municipality and Mapna Group to build 100 electric buses.

Under the agreement, 10 electric buses will be delivered to Mashhad City Municipality in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).
