Kazakhstan's Parliament to discuss 'open skies' agreement with US

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 23

By Nargiz Sadikhova – Trend:

Lower house of Kazakhstan’s Parliament will discuss the law draft on ratification of the agreement on direct air flights between Kazakhstan and the US, Trend reports.

"The law draft provides for the principles of open skies, within which the parties can operate without restrictions on the number of carriers, points of destination and frequencies,” Member of the Parliament Albert Rau said at the plenary session.

He noted that this agreement will help to increase external transport accessibility and expand the geography of international air routes.

"The committee is ready to take this bill into work, to prepare a conclusion on it," he added.

Kazakhstan and the US signed a treaty on ‘open skies’ in January 2020.

According to the information, the agreement is the first for Kazakhstan which oversees open skies principles in accordance to International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) recommendations on further liberalization of air transport.

The agreement sets the legislative base for implementation of direct regular flights between the countries and promotes further development of strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and the US.

Launch of direct flights between the countries will promote development of political, economic, cultural relations, as well as tourism.
