The volume of cargo transportation by all types of vehicles in Azerbaijan amounted to 107.9 million tons from January through July 2021, which is 3 percent less compared to the same period of 2020, Trend reports citing the report of the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.
At the same time, 56.8 percent of all goods were transported by road, 32.1 percent by pipeline, 7.8 percent by rail, 3 percent by sea, and 0.3 percent by air, the report said.
During this period, cargo transportation in the private sector decreased by 3.9 percent year on year, while this sector accounted for 77.7 percent of all cargo transportation.
“In the reporting period, the volume of passenger traffic by all types of transport in Azerbaijan amounted to 650.4 million people, which is 15.2 percent less than in the same period in 2020. Most of the passengers (96.6 percent) were transported by road, 3.1 percent - by metro, 0.3 percent - by other types of transport,” the committee said.
At the same time, the railway transport transported 8.4 million tons of cargo (an increase of 0.9 percent on annual basis), as well as 1.32 million passengers, which is a 7.2 percent growth in annual circulation.
“Almost 3.23 million tons of cargo were transported by sea during the reporting period, which is 8.2 percent less than in the same period last year. The share of oil in the total transportation of goods amounted to 37.1 percent,” the report said.
“The volume of cargo handled in the ports of Azerbaijan in January-July exceeded 5.18 million tons, of which 95.2 percent, or 4.93 million tons, were transit cargo. As of August 1, the volume of remaining cargo in the ports amounted to 136,500 tons,” the report said.
In the reporting period, 61.4 million tons of cargo were transported by road, which is 6.1 percent less than in 2020, and 628.5 million people were transported by this type of transport (a decrease of 10.2 percent).
From January through June 2021, 513,600 passengers were transported by air, which is 10.8 percent more compared to the same period of 2020. Cargo transportation increased by 19.6 percent - up to 273,800 tons.
