BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 23

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

Azerbaijan considers the development of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) as an opportunity to participate in the creation of a transport network on the territory of other countries, Igbal Guliyev, deputy director of the International Institute for Energy Policy and Diplomacy of Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), candidate of economic sciences, told Trend on Aug.23.

According to Guliyev, who is also an expert of the Sustainable Development Center under MGIMO, along with the above, Azerbaijan considers the development of this transport corridor as an opportunity to develop an infrastructure transport network and attract additional investments to the country.

"Moreover, through the implementation of these initiatives, the country acquires additional political opportunities to strengthen its leading role in the implementation of economic and energy projects in the Caspian region," added the expert.

The INSTC corridor is a network of sea, rail and road routes with a length of 7,200 kilometers for the shipment of goods between India, Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Russia, Central Asia and Europe.
