TEHRAN, Iran, Aug. 30
Trend:
The former CEO of the Railway Company of the Islamic Republic of Iran (RAI) said the Zahedan-Chabahar railway will connect Afghanistan to the two important ports of Shahid Rajaei in Bandar Abbas and Shahid Beheshti in Chabahar, Trend reports citing ILNA.
Iran-Afghanistan railway connection via the Khaf-Herat rail route is a strategic route for both countries, Mohsen Pour Seyed Aghaie said.
“Taliban as a government needs to resume trade with Iran through railway,” he noted.
The former CEO of RAI stated that the Khaf-Herat railway line will be activated, but the efficiency of this railway depends on its complete connection to Herat.
“Khaf railway is not fully connected to Herat yet and we are about 60 km away from Herat,” Aghaie added.
He went on to explain that the Herat railway is including two sections, the first of which was supposed to be opened by Iran as international aids to Afghanistan, the second section, which is a supplementary section, remained undecided.
“Afghanistan was to borrow money to build the second section and complete the route as soon as possible.”
Aghaie went on to stress that last year, trade between the two countries was about $7 billion.
