Iran declares data on cargo transportation in East Azerbaijan Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 30

A total of 8.5 million tons of cargo were transported in the East Azerbaijan Province (north-western Iran) during the first five months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through August 22, 2021), Deputy Director of Roads and Transport Department of East Azerbaijan Province Kazem Teymourzadeh said, Trend reports referring to Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran.

“Within 5 months, 425,000 tons of essential products were transported to the province from the south ports of Iran. Of this, 149,000 tons were wheat, and the rest was barley, corn feed and compressed soybeans,” Teymourzadeh said.

The deputy added that moreover, 1.38 million passengers were transported in the province in accordance with health protocols over the five months. This is an increase of 32 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

As reported, there are 285 local cargo companies, 120 passenger transportation companies, as well as, 73 international cargo companies and 6 international passenger transportation companies operating in Iran's East Azerbaijan Province

There are currently 33,500 trucks, 693 passenger buses and 37,000 drivers operating in the East Azerbaijan Province.
