Azerbaijan's railway cargo traffic grows in 8M2021

The volume of cargo transportation by railway in Azerbaijan had slightly grown from January through August 2021, Trend reports on Sept.15 citing the report of the State Statistical Committee.

According to the committee, this indicator amounted to 9.6 million tons, which is an increase of 48,000 tons or 0.6 percent on annual basis.

At the same time, passenger traffic by the mentioned mode of transport decreased by 1,530 people or 0.1 percent, standing at slightly over 1.5 million passengers, the committee said.

The state committee noted that railway transport in the reporting period accounted for 7.8 percent of all cargo transportation.

On average, the number of loaded railway cars per day was 339 and unloaded - 323. The average daily load of cars in the northern railway direction was 16,600 tons, in the western direction – 2,900 tons, and in the southern direction – 800 tons.

In the first eight months of 2021, cargo transportation by all modes of transport in Azerbaijan amounted to 124.4 million tons, which is the decline of 1.4 percent year on year, and passenger traffic – 744.5 million people, down 11.8 percent compared to the same period of 2020.
