Kazakhstan’s Aktau seaport looks to commission new container terminal

A new container terminal and a complex for repacking of wagon cargo are planned to be commissioned in the seaport of Aktau in Kazakhstan, Trend reports with reference to Kazinform.

According to the information, on September 22, 2021, during a meeting on the socio-economic development of the Mangistau region, held in the city of Aktau, the president of Kazakhstan instructed to create a container hub on the basis of the specified port and reorient part of cargo from China.

It was noted that, in pursuance of this order, the issue of creating a container runoff is currently being worked out, including the construction of a container terminal, a complex for repacking wagon cargo and agricultural products into containers, updating loading equipment.

"As a result of the implementation of the project, we expect an increase in container traffic by 2025 from 40,000 to 100,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit)," Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan Beibut Atamkulov said at a government meeting.
