Kazakhstan is currently elaborating the national project called as "Strong regions - driver of the country's development", Talgat Lastayev, chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee under the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development, told Trend.

According to Lastayev, the committee began work on the reconstruction of airfields for small planes throughout the country with the aim of developing domestic air transportation.

"Earlier the modernization was based on "one airport in two years" principle, but this year work is being carried out at five objects - in Shymkent, Uralsk, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Usharal and Urjar simultaneously. Improvement of the air transportation infrastructure has a positive effect on the tourist and investment image of the country," he said.

Speaking about the "Strong regions - driver of the country's development" project, the official said that it includes measures to modernize five airports (in Kostanai, Uralsk, Kyzylorda, Shymkent, Almaty).

"It’s also planned to restore the infrastructure of eight airfields of local air lines (Zhanibek, Kaztalovka, Saykhin, Arkalyk, Saryagash, Karkaralinsk, Ulytau, Zaisan)," concluded Lastayev.
