Iran is taking steps to increase transit of goods by trucks, Director General of the Transit and International Affairs Department of Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO) Javad Hedayati told Tasnim News Agency, Trend reports.
The official noted that the transit of goods through Iranian roads is expected to increase to 8.5-9 million tons by the end of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).
Hedayati also added that at present, about 500 million tons of goods are transported annually (domestic and transit) through Iranian roads.
“There are about 360,000 trucks operating in Iran. About 10 percent of them are operating in international transport,” he said.
According to the director general, the transit of goods by trucks through Iran for the first 7 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through October 22), increased by 125 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.
Reportedly, the transit of goods by trucks through Iran for 7 months amounted to 5.1 million tons. These goods were transported by 240,000 trucks.
