By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

Baku International Sea Trade Port transports goods in transit through Azerbaijan mainly to the countries of Central Asia and Europe, the head of the main cargo terminal of the port Elkhan Babayev told Trend.

According to Babayev, the Baku Sea Trade Port is capable of handling 100,000 TEU containers per year and has a special area for storing 1,200 TEU units.

"Also, at the port of Baku, the process of transshipment of bulk cargo is carried out (mainly urea). This type of cargo mainly comes to us from Turkmenistan and is transshipped into wagons for further transportation to European countries," he said.

Babayev noted that pipelines are also transshipped.

"The pipelines are transported to Azerbaijan mainly from Japan in transit through Russia. We load these pipes into trucks and send them to the warehouses of the bp oil company," he said.

Speaking about export, Babayev noted that the goods of SOCAR Polymer are loaded in special packaging on the corresponding ships and transported also in the direction of Europe.

"In addition, the port of Turkey accepts a large amount of electrical equipment by road. This equipment is unloaded from cars to ships and exported further in the direction of the countries of Central Asia," he stressed.
