Iran aims to develop transit cooperation with neighboring countries

Iran aims to increase cooperation with neighboring countries in the field of transit, cargo transportation via railways, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Rostam Ghasemi said, Trend reports citing Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization’s information portal.

He made the remark during an event dedicated to the launch of 30 port facilities in Iran.

The minister emphasized that one of Iran's main priorities in international cargo transportation is the establishment of railway links with all neighboring countries and the use of all the country's transit potential.

"For example, existing barriers to transit between Iran and Turkmenistan have been removed, and transit of goods between the two countries is currently underway," he added.

According to Ghasemi, over the past few months, development plans on cargo transportation have been implemented, and Iran has become the focus of international cargo transportation.

On February 7, 2022, 30 port infrastructure and developed facilities were put into operation in Iran. In this regard, 6.6 trillion rials (about $157 million) was spent and 709 people were employed.
