The freight traffic by all modes of transport in January through February 2022 in Azerbaijan increased, the State Statistical Committee told Trend.
According to the committee, this figure amounted to 31.7 million tons, up by 4.4 percent on annual basis.
According to the agency, 55.3 percent of all cargo was transported by road, 33.5 percent - by pipeline, 8 percent - by rail, 2.9 percent - by sea, and 0.3 percent - by air.
During the reporting period, freight transportation in the private sector increased by 5.8 percent compared to January through February 2021. The share of this sector in the overall volume of cargo transportation was 76.5 percent.
Meanwhile, passenger traffic in Azerbaijan exceeded 225 million people, which was 38.7 percent more than in the same period in 2021. Most of the passengers (86.6 percent) were transported by road, 13 percent – by metro, and 0.4 percent – by other modes of transport.
Cargo transportation by rail in the reporting period amounted to 2.5 million tons (a decrease of 1.9 percent on annual basis), and passenger transportation totaled almost 614,000 people (a two-fold increase).
Besides, over 922,200 tons of cargo were transported by sea, which was 2.9 percent more than in January through February 2021. The share of oil in the total volume of freight traffic was 45.1 percent.
The volume of cargo handled in the ports of Azerbaijan in the first two months of 2022 exceeded 1.61 million tons, out of which 93.9 percent, or about 1.511 million tons, were transit goods. As of March 1, 2022, the volume of remaining goods in the ports reached 35,800 tons.
In the period under review, 17.5 million tons of cargo were transported by road, up by 7.8 percent compared to the first two months of 2021, and passenger carriage by this transport mode amounted to almost 195 million people (an increase of 20.4 percent).
Besides, 29.4 million passengers were transported by metro.
Over 218,600 passengers were transported by air in January through February 2022, which was 3.7 times more than in the same period of 2021. Cargo transportation by air increased by 30.8 percent, up to 103,300 tons for the year.
