BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 12. The number of individuals and legal entities engaged in international road transport in Azerbaijan significantly grew in the first half of 2022, Trend reports via the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.
According to the agency, this figure amounted to 204, up by 2.87 times compared to the first half of 2021 (71 individuals and legal entities).
From January through June 2022, the number of vehicles involved in international road transport increased by 2.7 times - up to 7,208 (against 2,710 in the same period last year).
Meanwhile, the number of permit forms issued to carriers grew by 29.7 percent, which means an increase in the activity of Azerbaijani carriers internationally by 22.4 percent.
"Azerbaijan’s bilateral road cargo traffic with countries, with which it has the most intensive traffic, increased by four percent. The number of Azerbaijani companies involved in the above traffic grew by 6,815, and the number of foreign carriers decreased by 2,234 compared to the period from January through June last year," the agency said.
"The share of Azerbaijani carriers in road cargo transportation to Türkiye increased by 7.7 percent, to Georgia - by 10.2 percent, to Russia - by 5.4 percent, and to Iran - by 7.2 percent. In the reporting period, the total international road traffic in Azerbaijan grew by 3.2 percent compared to the first half of last year," the agency noted.
"The indicators of international road traffic between Azerbaijan and partner countries have approached parity. Last year the share of Azerbaijani carriers [in the cargo transportation to the partner countries] was 39.5 percent, and in 2022 this figure reached 47 percent," added the agency.
