BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 26. Azerbaijan is ready to continue creating all conditions so that partners of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) can use the transit potential of the country, Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov said this during the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports.

According to him, cooperation within the framework of transit projects that connects countries and continents will contribute to a stable, prosperous, decent and predictable future through the whole Eurasian continent.

"This point is supported by the new realities that have arisen in the region, which create good opportunities for unblocking transport communication and also opening new transit and trade routes," Asadov stated.

Prime Minister stressed that Azerbaijan continues to invest in the modernization of transport infrastructure for the implementation of projects to create international transport and logistics corridors.

"Azerbaijan is an important link in a number of projects, such as the international transport corridors North-South and East-West, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and others. Azerbaijan is witnessing an annual increase in cargo transportation through its territory on various routes. The volume of transit traffic through various corridors has increased by more than 50 percent in just six months of 2022. The volume of transit cargo going through the Alat international seaport of in the Caspian Sea is increasing. The port's infrastructure allows handling up to 15 million tons, including 100,000 TEU containers per year. Taking this into account, we have laid the second phase of increasing the port's transshipment capacity to 25 million tons of cargo and 500,000 TEU containers," he added.

The growth of the Azerbaijani economy amounted to 6.2 percent in the first half of 2022. The non-oil sector grew by 9.6 percent, and foreign trade turnover - by more than 70 percent. The export of Azerbaijani goods has more than doubled, and non–oil exports have increased by 25 percent.
