BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 10. Iran is expected to build a new border terminal in Astara County of Gilan Province (northern Iran), in less than 1 year, Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Shahriar Afandizadeh told Trend.
“In this regard, discussions were conducted during a tripartite meeting of Iranian, Azerbaijani and Russian officials in Tehran on October 9, 2022,” he said.
According to Afandizadeh, the mentioned border terminal will be built outside Astara city due to prevent traffic jams in the city.
With the opening of this border terminal, as well as the new bridge over the Astarachay River, the number of trucks crossing the border will increase to 500 per day, the minister added.
The deputy minister also pointed out that discussions were also conducted on the construction of the Aghband road bridge, as well as North-South and East-West transport corridors.
On January 25, 2022, the foundation of a new bridge over the Astarachay River on the border of Azerbaijan-Iran was laid. The construction of the 97.5-meter-long and 30.5-meter-wide bridges is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
