BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 28. There is currently 87 percent physical progress in the construction of the railway line from the city of Ardabil in Iran’s Ardabil Province to the city of Miyaneh in East Azerbaijan Province, Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development, and CEO of Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructure Company (CDTIC), Kheirollah Khademi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

The deputy minister said that the mentioned railway line, which is 175 km long, is planned to be put into use by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2023).

Khademi noted that 28 km long tunnels are located on this railway line. The country's longest tunnel, 4.2 km long, will be located on this railway line.

According to him, this railway line is one of the most complex railway projects in the country. The Ardabil-Miyaneh railway line is being built entirely by the private sector. Within the framework of this project, 11 contractors and 7 consulting companies are cooperating.

The CEO added that the speed of freight trains on the railway line is set at 120 kilometers per hour, and the passenger trains - at 160 kilometers per hour.

The construction of Iran's Ardabil-Mianeh railway line began in 2015. After the launch of the railway line, it is projected that 2.5 million tons of cargo and 600,000 passengers will be transported annually in the first year.

Meanwhile, in 20 years, the railway will be able to transport 4 million tons of cargo and 1.5 million passengers a year. Iran considers the launch of the railway line important from the economic and transit point of view.
