BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 18. Iran plans to commission a controlled-access highway between the city of Shiraz in Fars Province and the city of Isfahan in Isfahan Province by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2022), Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development, and CEO of Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructure Company (CDTIC), Kheirollah Khademi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.
According to Khademi, a number of operations in the construction of the 225-kilometer long highway have been completed and some operations have been accelerated.
“So far, 200 trillion rials (about $4.76 billion) has been spent on the Shiraz-Isfahan controlled-access highway. Some 50 percent of the mentioned funds have been spent by the government, and 50 percent - by the Cooperative Foundation of the Iranian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics,” the deputy minister said.
The CEO also added that the distance between Shiraz and Isfahan cities will decrease by 130 km with the launch of the highway.
Khademi noted that the commissioning of the Shiraz-Isfahan highway will allow save annual fuel consumption worth 30 trillion rials (about $714 million).
The construction of the Shiraz-Isfahan controlled-access highway began in 2010.
