Number of trucks crossing through Iran's Jolfa border terminal increases

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 6. The number of trucks crossing through Iran’s Jolfa border terminal in the East Azerbaijan Province in the north-west of the country, increased by 46 percent, during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through February 19, 2023), compared to the same period last Iranian year, head of the terminal Hassan Dadashzadeh said, Trend reports citing Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

“More than 89,000 trucks crossed through the Jolfa border terminal in 11 months. Of them, over 30,000 were Iranian trucks, and 59,000 were other countries’ trucks,” he noted.

Dadashzadeh also added that over 960,000 tons of goods were exported and imported through the Jolfa border terminal for the reporting period. At the same time, about 599,000 tons of cargo were transited through the mentioned terminal within 11 months.

According to him, more than 204,000 people crossed the Jolfa border terminal in 11 months. Of them, 29,100 were Iranian citizens and more than 175,000 were citizens of other countries.

“In general, the number of citizens passing through the Jolfa border terminal for 11 months increased by 229 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year,” the official said.

Dadashzadeh also pointed out that 1,795 passenger buses crossed through the Jolfa border terminal within 11 months. Of them, 827 units belonged to Iran, and 968 to other countries.

The Jolfa border terminal is located on the border with Iran and Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
