BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 7. More than 37.1 million tons of cargo were transported through Iran’s railways, during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through January 20, 2023), as was reflected in the statistics of Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, Trend reports.

Of the total amount, 19.6 million tons accounted for mining minerals.

In general, the main transported goods via the country’s railways for the reporting period were mining minerals, various vehicles, petroleum products, cement, coal, grain, agricultural products, sulfur, foodstuffs, wood, aluminum and etc.

The mentioned volume of cargo was transported by 608,283 freight wagons.

Also, 362,753 tons of cargo were imported to Iran via 8,414 freight wagons through the country’s railway lines in 10 months.

Meanwhile, over 1.475 million tons of cargo were exported by 26,703 freight wagons via Iran’s railways over ten months.

Overall, 47 million tons of cargo were transported through Iranian railways in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).

Currently, 978 locomotives, 29,305 freight wagons, and 2,153 passenger wagons are operating on Iran's railway lines.
