BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 3. The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Line Group (IRISL) is expected to add 12 new cargo ships to its fleet in the Caspian Sea, during the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), Trend reports citing the group’s website.

Overall, $80 million is expected to be spent on the purchase and building of new ships.

In this regard, 1 cargo ship with a capacity of 7,200 tons was purchased in Astrakhan region of Russia and it will be delivered to the IRISL Group in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023).

Also, an order was made to local manufacturers for the building of two Ro-Ro ships and two container ships.

With the addition of these ships, container shipment capacity of the IRISL Group is expected to become at least 100,000 TEU/year in the near future.

Currently, Iran Shipping Group has 137 ships. The total capacity of these ships is 5 million tons per year. It is planned to add 77 more ships into the fleet.
