BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 10. The volume of crude oil and petroleum products loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports decreased by 18.4 percent, in the 2nd month of the current Iranian year (April 21 through May 21, 2023), compared to the same month in the last Iranian year, Trend reports.
Within the 2nd month, 3.74 million tons of crude oil and related products were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports. Of that, 2.21 million tons were loaded and 1.53 million tons were unloaded. The loaded oil products decreased by 22.2 percent, while unloaded products increased by 12.2 percent in volume compared to the same month in the last year.
In total, approximately 11.7 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports for the 2nd month. This is a decrease of 3.4 percent compared to the same month in the last year. So, 7.01 million tons of cargo were loaded and about 4.66 million tons were unloaded.
Also, 1.96 million tons of essential products were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports within the mentioned month, which is a decrease of 4.6 percent compared to the same month in last year. Of this, about 153,000 tons were loaded and about 1.8 million tons were unloaded.
Furthermore, 1.24 million tons of metal products were loaded and unloaded at Iran’s ports over the 2nd month, which is an increase of 41.8 percent compared to the same month in the last Iranian year. Of this, 1.13 million tons tons were loaded and 109,000 tons were unloaded.
At the same time, 2.65 million tons of construction and mining materials were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports during the reporting month. This is an increase of 46.1 percent compared to the same month in last year. About 2.48 million tons were loaded and about 173,000 tons were unloaded.
Over the 2nd month, 58,500 tons of equipment, vehicles, and spare parts were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports. This is an increase of 54.4 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year. Of that, 10,100 tons were loaded and 48,400 tons were unloaded.
Some 760,000 tons of chemicals were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports in the 2nd month of the current Iranian year, which is an increase of 60.8 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year. So, 515,000 tons were loaded and 245,000 tons were unloaded.
In addition, 123,000 tons of leather, clothing, fiber, paper, and wood materials were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports over the 2nd month, which is an increase of 57.7 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year. Of this, 1,000 tons were loaded and 122,000 tons were unloaded.
About 40,600 tons of small and assorted products were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports during the same month. The loaded/unloaded products decreased by 51.4 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year. About 16,000 tons of cargo were loaded and 24,600 tons were unloaded.
In the 2nd month, 1.09 million tons of container products were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports, which is a decrease of 47.4 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year. About 494,000 tons of container products were loaded and 599,000 tons were unloaded for the reporting month.
Moreover, 6.29 million tons of cargo were exported and 2.69 million tons were imported through Iranian ports in the 2nd month of the current Iranian year.
In addition, 208,000 tons of cargo were loaded and 236,000 tons were unloaded at Iran’s ports for transit within the mentioned month.
During the 2nd month, about 474,000 tons of cargo were loaded and 1.63 million tons were unloaded in Iranian ports for cabotage, as well as 32,000 tons of cargo were loaded and 35,400 tons were unloaded for transshipment.
Meanwhile, 9,340 tons of cargo were loaded and 55,800 tons were unloaded at Iranian ports for other purposes.
Reportedly, the annual capacity of Iranian ports is currently more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking a number of steps to increase the capacity of its ports to 500 million tons per year.
