BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 14. The volume of crude oil and petroleum products loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports decreased by 18.4 percent, in the 3rd month of the current Iranian year (May 22 through June 21, 2023), compared to the same month in the last Iranian year, Trend reports.
As indicated in the data of Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), 4.15 million tons of crude oil and related products were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports within the 3rd month. Of that, 1.8 million tons were loaded and 2.35 million tons were unloaded.
In total, approximately 13.2 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports for the 3rd month. This is an increase of nine percent compared to the same month in the last year. So, 5.55 million tons of cargo were loaded and 7.64 million tons were unloaded.
Also, 2.36 million tons of essential products were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports within the mentioned month, which is an increase of 22.2 percent compared to the same month in last year. Of this, 217,000 tons were loaded and 2.15 million tons were unloaded.
Furthermore, 813,000 of metal products were loaded and unloaded at Iran’s ports over the 3rd month, which is a decrease of 8.8 percent compared to the same month in the last Iranian year. Of this, about 733,000 tons were loaded and 80,700 tons were unloaded.
At the same time, 3.15 million tons of construction and mining materials were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports during the reporting month. This is an increase of 78.9 percent compared to the same month in last year. Some 3 million tons were loaded and 151,000 tons were unloaded.
Over the 3rd month, 74,500 tons of equipment, vehicles, and spare parts were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports. This is an increase of 55 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year. Of that, 13,200 tons were loaded and 61,300 tons were unloaded.
Circa 509,000 tons of chemicals were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports in the 3rd month of the current Iranian year, which is an increase of 22.5 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year. So, 390,000 tons were loaded and about 119,000 tons were unloaded.
In addition, 79,300 tons of leather, clothing, fiber, paper, and wood materials were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports over the 3rd month, which is an increase of 52.2 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year. Of this, 2,320 tons were loaded and 77,000 tons were unloaded.
Some 50,800 tons of small and assorted products were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports during the same month. Of that, 25,100 tons were loaded and 25,700 tons were unloaded.
In the 3rd month, 1.98 million tons of container products were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports, which is a decrease of 11 percent compared to the same month last Iranian year. About 902,000 tons of container products were loaded and 1.08 million tons were unloaded for the reporting month.
Moreover, 6.96 million tons of cargo were exported and 3.1 million tons were imported through Iranian ports in the 3rd month of the current Iranian year.
In addition, 328,000 tons of cargo were loaded and 472,000 tons were unloaded at Iran’s ports for transit within the mentioned month.
During the 3rd month, about 253,000 tons of cargo were loaded and 1.76 million tons were unloaded in Iranian ports for cabotage, as well as 83,800 tons of cargo were loaded and 77,500 tons were unloaded for transshipment.
Meanwhile, 7,830 tons of cargo were loaded and 132,000 tons were unloaded at Iranian ports for other purposes.
Reportedly, the annual capacity of Iranian ports is currently more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking a number of steps to increase the capacity of its ports to 500 million tons per year.
