BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 5. The Marine Merchant Fleet of Turkmenistan revealed this week the total number of TEU containers transported between the Baku International Sea Trade Port (Azerbaijan) and the Turkmenbashi International Seaport from January through June of this year, Trend reports.

According to the Marine Merchant Fleet, this indicator reached 2,362 units, which is 2.9 times more compared to the first half of 2022.

Besides, 80 percent of the design work for the Horadiz-Aghband railway line in Azerbaijan has been completed. On the 64.3 km section out of the total 110.4 km, rails and sleepers have already been installed.

Additionally, the construction of 334 engineering structures, including 20 bridges of various sizes, has been completed. Currently, earthwork and engineering construction work are ongoing on the 68-84 km section of the Horadiz-Aghband railway line.

Besides, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC noted this week that additional trains will operate along the Baku-Agstafa-Baku route on August 5 and 6.

According to the CJSC, trains will depart from Baku Railway Station to Agstafa at 08:25 (GMT+4), while in the opposite direction, they will arrive at 17:10.

Passenger transportation by rail increased by more than half in Azerbaijan, up to 3.7 million people, and the volume of traffic grew slightly (five percent) to 10.6 million tons from January through July 2023.

The Permanent Secretariat of the TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia) Intergovernmental Commission, together with partners, discussed the development of recommendations for the best scenarios of trade routes among participating representatives of the private sector from Central Asian countries, as well as Azerbaijan and Georgia.

The main directions of TRACECA's activities include the development of multimodal transport, the digitalization of the corridor, and improving the efficiency of maritime transport. The Permanent Secretariat expressed its readiness to cooperate in order to ensure greater and more effective connectivity in the region.
