ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, September 18. The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), one of the branches of which leads to the Turkmen port city of Turkmenbashi, has potential and is of interest to Lithuanian business circles, a source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania told Trend.
"During the June visit of Lithuanian Deputy Foreign Affair Minister’s Mantas Adomėnas to Ashgabat, both sides agreed to sign agreements on a number of matters, make better use of bilateral trade opportunities, to establish mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of logistic, transport, life sciences, digital technologies, renewable energy sources and to sign agreements on a number of issues," said the source.
It was noted that Lithuania, being a member of the EU, encourages the continuation of cooperation between the EU and Turkmenistan, including within the framework of the EU Global Gateway initiative.
"The EU sees prospects for further expansion of partnership with Turkmenistan and continues discussions on energy-related issues, including diversification of transit routes, promotion of renewables and energy efficiency," said the source.
Meanwhile, at the end of June this year, a meeting of the delegations of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vepa Hajiyev and Latvia headed by Vice Minister Mantas Adomėnas was held in Ashgabat, during which the readiness of the parties to actively develop cooperation in the energy sector was confirmed.
