BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 21. The volume of crude oil and petroleum products loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports decreased by 4 percent, in the 5th month of the current Iranian year (July 23 through August 22, 2023), compared with the same time last Iranian year, Trend reports.
As indicated in the data of Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), 4.72 million tons of crude oil and related products were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports within the 5th month. Of that, 2.74 million tons were loaded and 1.98 million tons were unloaded.
In total, approximately 12.7 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports for the 5th month. This is an increase of 1.5 percent compared to the same month last year. So, 7 million tons of cargo were loaded and 5.68 million tons were unloaded.
Also, 2.14 million tons of essential products were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports within the mentioned month, of which, around 192,000 tons were loaded and 1.95 million tons were unloaded.
Furthermore, 444,000 of metal products were loaded and unloaded at Iran’s ports over the 5th month. Of that, about 361,000 tons were loaded and 83,500 tons were unloaded.
At the same time, 1.88 million tons of construction and mining materials were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports during the reporting month. Some 1.53 million tons were loaded and 351,000 tons were unloaded.
Over the 5th month, 64,500 tons of equipment, vehicles, and spare parts were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports. Of this, 8,940 tons were loaded and 55,600 tons were unloaded.
Some 524,000 tons of chemicals were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports in the 5th month of the current Iranian year. So, 412,000 tons were loaded and 112,000 tons were unloaded.
In addition, 141,000 tons of leather, clothing, fiber, paper, and wood materials were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports over the 5th month. Of that, 3,170 tons were loaded and 138,000 tons were unloaded.
In the 5th month, 54,600 tons of small and assorted products were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports. Of that, 29,700 tons were loaded and 24,900 tons were unloaded.
Over 2 million tons of container products were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports in the 5th month. About 895,000 tons of container products were loaded and 1.11 million tons were unloaded for the reporting month.
Moreover, 6.27 million tons of cargo were exported and 3.01 million tons were imported through Iranian ports in the 5th month of the current Iranian year.
In addition, approximately 409,000 tons of cargo were loaded and about 494,000 tons were unloaded at Iran’s ports for transit within the mentioned month.
During the 5th month, 218,000 tons of cargo were loaded and 1.96 million tons were unloaded in Iranian ports for cabotage, as well as 104,000 tons of cargo were loaded and 101,000 tons were unloaded for transshipment.
Meanwhile, 8,030 tons of cargo were loaded and 107,000 tons were unloaded at Iranian ports for other purposes.
Reportedly, the annual capacity of Iranian ports is currently more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking a number of steps to increase the capacity of its ports to 500 million tons per year.
