BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 22. An international consulting company, together with the Land Transport Agency of Azerbaijan, is preparing projects on the development of micromobility, the agency told Trend.
According to this information, taking into account the growing interest in the use of bicycles and scooters among the population as well as the importance of the wide use of this type of transport in terms of micromobility, the Land Transport Agency of Azerbaijan has attracted an international consulting company. Together with foreign colleagues, projects are being prepared for the development of micromobility infrastructure in Azerbaijan's Baku.
According to the agency, this will reduce traffic jams, protect the environment, and most importantly, increase the physical activity of citizens.
"Within the framework of the mentioned project, the possibilities of using bicycle lanes installed in Baku over the past period will be assessed, and all identified shortcomings will be eliminated," the agency said.
In addition to the above, measures are taken to improve the legal and regulatory framework for the development of micromobility.
Moreover, passenger transportation in Azerbaijan exceeded 1.1 billion people from January through August 2023, which is 16 percent higher year-on-year. Most of the passengers (87.8 percent) were transported by motor vehicles, 11.3 percent by metro, and 0.6 percent by other means of transportation.
