BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 26. Cargo transit via the customs of Iran’s Golestan Province in the north-east of the country increased by 146 percent in value and 170 percent in volume during the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), compared with the same period last year, Director General of Golestan Province Customs Office Shahriar Shahriari said, Trend reports.
The director general noted that a total of 28,800 tons of cargo worth over $171 million were transited via the province’s customs in six months.
However, Shahriari did not clarify the type of products and to which destinations they are in transit.
According to him, the revenue of Golestan Province’s customs for the reporting period increased by 213 percent compared to the same period last year and reached 2.39 trillion rials (about $57 million).
Overall, 6.2 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran within the first 5 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2023), which is an increase of 5.4 percent compared to the same period last year.
