Cargo handling at Iran’s ports surges

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 29. Iran’s ports have seen a 7-percent rise in cargo handling in the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through November 21, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.

As reflected in the data from the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), the total volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at the ports reached 154 million tons, with 102 million tons of loading and 51.4 million tons of unloading.

Oil and petroleum products accounted for 74.2 million tons of the cargo, while non-oil products amounted to 79.7 million tons.

In addition, about 1.79 million TEU containers were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports during the past 8 months, showing a 3-percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Iranian ports have an annual capacity of 240 million tons, which is expected to grow to 300 million tons with ongoing projects.
