BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 7. The volume of crude oil and petroleum products loaded and unloaded at Iran’s ports increased by 23.6 percent in the 9th month of the current Iranian year (November 22 through December 21, 2023), compared to the same month the previous year, Trend reports.
Data from the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) shows that 4.54 million tons of crude oil and related products were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports within the 9th month. Of that, about 2.68 million tons were loaded and 1.87 million tons were unloaded.
In total, 13.3 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports for the 9th month, showing an 11.4-percent increase compared to the same month last year. So, 5.57 million tons of cargo were loaded, and 7.74 million tons were unloaded.
About 2.48 million tons of essential products were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports within the month mentioned. Of that, 184,000 tons were loaded and 2.3 million tons were unloaded.
Furthermore, 674,000 metal products were loaded and unloaded at Iran’s ports over the 9th month. About 79,800 tons were loaded, and 594,000 tons were unloaded.
At the same time, 3.8 million tons of construction and mining materials were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports during the reporting month. Some 3.55 million tons of them were loaded, and 246,000 tons were unloaded.
Over the ninth month, 48,000 tons of equipment, vehicles, and spare parts were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports, of which 9,960 tons were loaded and 38,100 tons were unloaded.
Also, 288,000 tons of chemicals were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports in the 9th month of the current Iranian year. So, 218,000 tons were loaded, and 70,300 tons were unloaded.
In addition, 122,000 tons of leather, clothing, fiber, paper, and wood materials were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports for the 9th month. Of this, 1,390 tons were loaded, and 121,000 tons were unloaded.
Some 26,700 tons of small and assorted products were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports during the same month. Of that, 12,300 tons were loaded and 14,400 tons were unloaded.
During the 9th month, 1.3 million tons of container products were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports. About 499,000 tons of container products were loaded and 804,000 tons were unloaded for the reporting month.
Moreover, 7.15 million tons of cargo were exported and 3.23 million tons were imported through Iranian ports in the 9th month of the current Iranian year.
In particular, 442,000 tons of cargo were loaded and about 328,000 tons were unloaded at Iran’s ports for transit within the mentioned month.
Within the 9th month, 107,000 tons of cargo were loaded and 1.74 million tons were unloaded in Iranian ports for cabotage, as well as 39,000 tons of cargo loaded and 57,200 tons unloaded for transshipment.
Meanwhile, 10,600 tons of cargo were loaded and about 204,000 tons were unloaded at Iranian ports for other purposes.
Reportedly, the annual capacity of Iranian ports is currently more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking a number of steps to increase the capacity of its ports to 500 million tons per year.
