TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, February 6. A network of electric vehicle charging stations will be created in Uzbekistan given the launch of their production and the high demand for this type of transportation in the Republic, Trend reports, referring to the presidential press service of Uzbekistan.

According to the press service, Mirziyoyev familiarized with the presentation of measures to expand the production of electric vehicles.

"Responsible officials have been instructed to expand the previously defined plans for the electric vehicle industry and speed up the implementation of projects. It was decided to develop a program for the development of a network of electric vehicle charging stations," the report says.

''Over the past three years, sales of electric cars in Uzbekistan have increased 10 times, and 35 percent of car imports to the country were electric and hybrid cars,'' the press service notes.

The President of Uzbekistan also stressed the necessity to establish localization of parts for electric cars with the involvement of partners from China's BYD.

BYD commissioned a project to assemble hybrid and electric cars in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan with a capacity of 50,000 units per year at the end of January. It is planned to increase production output to 500,000 cars annually in the future.

The project with the participation of BYD is the first production of electric cars in Uzbekistan. JSC Uzavtoprom and Chinese BYD signed an agreement on the organization of the production of new energy vehicles (NEV) in Uzbekistan in August 2022. The agreement provides for the establishment of a full CKD-cycle production facility: stamping, welding, painting, and assembling of BYD vehicles.
