BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 12. The volume of crude oil and petroleum products loaded and unloaded at Iran’s ports rose by 9.4 percent in the 10th month of the current Iranian year (December 22, 2023 through January 20, 2024), compared to the same month the previous year, Trend reports.
Data from the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) shows that about 4.16 million tons of crude oil and related products were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports within the 10th month. Of that, 2.04 million tons were loaded and around 2.12 million tons were unloaded.
In total, 13.1 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports for the 10th month, showing an 28.4-percent increase compared to the same month last year. So, 6.91 million tons of cargo were loaded, and 6.19 million tons were unloaded.
About 2.36 million tons of essential products were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports within the month mentioned. Of that, 170,000 tons were loaded and 2.19 million tons were unloaded.
Furthermore, 907,000 metal products were loaded and unloaded at Iran’s ports over the 10th month. About 796,000 tons were loaded, and about 112,000 tons were unloaded.
At the same time, 2.64 million tons of construction and mining materials were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports during the reporting month. Some 2.52 million tons of them were loaded, and around 114,000 tons were unloaded.
Over the 10th month, 45,500 tons of equipment, vehicles, and spare parts were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports, of which 9,460 tons were loaded and 36,000 tons were unloaded.
Also, 565,000 tons of chemicals were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports in the 10th month of the current Iranian year. So, 368,000 tons were loaded, and 197,000 tons were unloaded.
In addition, 129,000 tons of leather, clothing, fiber, paper, and wood materials were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports for the 10th month. Of this, 3,010 tons were loaded, and 126,000 tons were unloaded.
Some 39,800 tons of small and assorted products were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports during the same month. Of that, 16,600 tons were loaded and 23,100 tons were unloaded.
During the 10th month, 2.24 million tons of container products were loaded and unloaded at the country’s ports. About 977,000 tons of container products were loaded and 1.27 million tons were unloaded for the reporting month.
Moreover, 6.04 million tons of cargo were exported and 3.69 million tons were imported through Iranian ports in the 10th month of the current Iranian year.
In particular, 596,000 tons of cargo were loaded and 465,000 tons were unloaded at Iran’s ports for transit within the mentioned month.
Within the 10th month, 168,000 tons of cargo were loaded and 1.7 million tons were unloaded in Iranian ports for cabotage, as well as 95,300 tons of cargo loaded and 94,400 tons unloaded for transshipment.
Meanwhile, 9,430 tons of cargo were loaded and about 236,000 tons were unloaded at Iranian ports for other purposes.
Reportedly, the annual capacity of Iranian ports is currently more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking a number of steps to increase the capacity of its ports to 500 million tons per year.
