Azerbaijan's railway system reports growth in passenger traffic

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 14. In January 2024, Azerbaijan transported 1.4 million tons of cargo via railway transport, Trend reports, referring to the country's State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.

According to the committee's data, railway cargo transportation in 2024 saw a seven percent decrease compared to 2022, while passenger transportation increased by 30.1 percent, reaching 622,600 people.

Rail transportation accounted for 7.9 percent of all freight traffic during the period.

The daily average saw 326 loaded rail cars and 366 unloaded rail cars.

In 2023, total cargo transportation in Azerbaijan reached 230.2 million tons, marking a 5.3 percent increase from 2022. Additionally, passenger transportation surpassed 1.923 billion people, reflecting an 18.7 percent growth compared to 2022.
