BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 20. Iran is set to launch new terminals at its airports by the end of its current fiscal year (March 19, 2024), as part of 16 ongoing projects that also include equipment purchases and other improvements, Trend reports.

According to the Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, the total cost of these projects amounted to 6.5 million euros and 8.68 trillion rials (about $207 million).

The ministry also reported that the number of large civil aircraft (including passenger and cargo planes) in operation in the country rose from 157 in July 2021 to 167 in October 2023, with 37 new planes joining the fleet since the current government took office in August 2021.

However, it is evident that 27 planes were decommissioned in Iran during the same period, though this was not mentioned by the ministry.

There are 54 civil active airports in Iran. 14 of them are international airports. On average, 30 million passengers are transported through Iranian airports per year.
