ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, March 9. Representatives of Turkmenistan Railways and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) discussed cooperation in the development of international transport corridors, Trend reports.
During the meeting held in Turkmenistan, the parties noted that at the moment there are wide opportunities for realizing the transport potential of Turkmenistan, located in a strategically important place.
In this regard, the importance of signing an agreement on the creation of an international transport corridor between the governments of Iran, Oman, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, known as the Ashgabat Agreement, which was later joined by Qatar, Kazakhstan, and India, was stressed.
At the same time, the parties stressed that the Lapis Lazuli Corridor connecting Afghanistan with Türkiye and Europe has great prospects and is designed to strengthen the economic integration of the region and improve the lives of the Afghan people through the country's participation in world trade.
The representatives also touched upon the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, which, according to them, also opened up new opportunities for increasing freight traffic between the countries of Central Asia, the Caspian basin, and neighboring regions.
Meanwhile, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is a non-profit organization established in 1974 to support the development of other countries through technical cooperation and the exchange of experience.
It cooperates with more than 160 countries and provides assistance in various fields such as education, health, agriculture, transport, infrastructure, and others, as well as contributing to the development of human resources in partner countries.
