Russian Railways talks over growth of China-Russia freight transportation

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 9. The total volume of freight traffic between China and Russia increased by 8 percent to 42.5 million tons in the first quarter of 2024, Trend reports, referring to Deputy General Director of Russian Railways JSC (RZD) and Head of the Center for Corporate Transportation Service Alexei Shilo.

The Russian and Chinese economies are the largest in the Asian region and are interconnected.

"The cumulative growth of transportation through Chinese land border crossings amounted to 21 percent in the first quarter, and through ports, three percent," the JSC said.

In 2023, the volume of cargo transportation between the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation amounted to 161 million tons, or 36 percent growth.

According to Alexei Shilo, in 2024, the indicator of cargo transportation between China and Russia will grow by at least seven percent.
