ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, April 17. Turkmenistan has opened traffic on the Tejen - Mary section of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat high-speed highway, Trend reports.
According to the official source, the works on the construction of the highway and the improvement of the adjacent territory were carried out by the Altyn Nesil company on the order of the Turkmen Awtoban CJSC, which also acts as the general contractor for the project.
The new highway has six lanes for traffic, and on each side there is an additional lane for emergencies, a ditch, and metal fences to prevent animals and people from entering the roadway.
Furthermore, parking lots, recreation areas, shops, cafes, filling stations, and other infrastructure are located along the highway for the convenience of drivers and passengers.
A special system that controls traffic along the autobahn collects traffic data from CCTV cameras and weather stations (humidity, visibility, etc.) and transmits it to the traffic supervision service.
Meanwhile, the Tejen - Mary highway is the second section of the large-scale, three-stage construction of the 600-kilometer Ashgabat - Turkmenbashi highway, which began in 2019.

The highway opens up new prospects for transport links with neighboring countries along the Great Silk Road, providing trucks with direct access to Turkmenbashi city, from where sea routes open to various regions, including the Caucasus, Europe, and the Gulf countries.
