BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 30. The heads of the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO) have taken part in the “The Middle Corridor Initiative – Where Europe and Asia Mee” conference organized in Brussels jointly by the European Institute for Asian Studies (EIAS) and the Azerbaijani Embassy in Belgium, Trend reports via AZPROMO.

The conference addressed Azerbaijan's vital role in establishing the Middle Corridor as a dependable trade route, along with the efforts of UNDP and European Commission experts to enhance transport and logistics connections between East and West, and the digitalization of trade corridors.

Panel discussions featured the participation of Yusif Abdullayev, Executive Director of AZPROMO; Axel Goethals, CEO of EIAS; Camilla Brückner, Director of the UNDP office in Brussels; and Sarah Rinaldi, Head of the Middle East and Central Asia Unit of the European Commission.

The event attracted interest from members of various political institutions of the European Union, representatives of the European Parliament, as well as staff from Belgian educational institutions and research centers.

It's worth noting that while the Middle Corridor has been evolving since 2014, it's been the last two years that have seen heightened global attention due to shifting geopolitical dynamics.

In 2023, the Middle Corridor facilitated the passage of 2.7 million tons of cargo, with projections indicating that the volume may surpass 4.2 million tons in 2024.
