BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 18. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) route is establishing itself as a vital hub for ports in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, CEO of Alliance Multimodal, Natig Jafarov, said in a statement at the session titled "International Transport Corridors in the Black and Caspian Sea Region" at the Black and Caspian Freight Forum 2024 in Baku, Trend reports.
"BTK continues to strengthen its position as a strategic transport hub and is already a key connection point for the ports of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. The railway route serves as a crucial link for cargo transit between Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Europe. BTK is an essential junction connecting key Caspian Sea ports with global markets," he said.
The modernization of BTK has increased its capacity fivefold, from one million to five million tons of cargo annually. This improvement pertains to the segment of the corridor running through Azerbaijan and Georgia. Further developments in Türkiye are expected to enhance cargo volumes over time.
