Freight traffic on Middle Corridor picking up steam

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 9. A total of 3.4 million tons of cargo was transported along the Middle Corridor from January through September 2024, which exceeded the figure of the same period of 2023 by 70 percent, Trend reports via Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport.

Information indicates that the Director General of APM Terminals, Poti Christian Roeder, and Kazakhstan's Minister of Transportation, Marat Karabaev, announced this figure during their meeting today.

“Minister Karabaev held a meeting with the director general of APM Terminals, Poti Christian Roeder, on October 9. The major topic of the meeting was the discussion of increasing the volume of cargo transportation and the development of transport infrastructure within the TITR (Middle Corridor),” the information reads.

Karabaev stated that the growth of container transportation for the nine months of 2024 reached 34,600 TEU, increasing three times compared to the same period last year. Also, the transit of containers from China increased more than 20 times during this period.

“The parties expressed readiness for further cooperation, which will strengthen transportation links between Kazakhstan and APM Terminals, as well as ensure the growth of container transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route,” the information says.

“APM Terminals Poti Sea Port Corporation” operates in Georgia's Poti. Georgia is a member of the TITR. This route has been developing for ten years, but it is the last two years that have been the most active. A total of 2.7 million tons of cargo passed through it in 2023.
