Kazakh, US Defence Bodies to Discuss Military Cooperation Plan

Kazakhstan, Astana, 1 February / Тrend corr. K. Konirova / On 1 February, the Kazakh Parliament discussed cooperation between the defence bodies of Kazakhstan and the United States.

The Committee on International Affairs, Defence and Security received the delegation of the US Defence Department headed by Mitchell Shivers, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Central Asia.

"Within the framework of the visit the members of the US Defence Department's delegation will hold negotiations with their Kazakh counterparts to discuss approval of the new Military Cooperation Plan for 2008- 2012," Shivers said to journalists after the meeting.

He highly appreciated Kazakhstan's efforts to assist in stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan, as well as in global fighting against terrorism.
