The Nur Otan National Democratic Party should remain in power in Kazakhstan for no less than half a century, the Kazakh president and party leader Nursultan Nazarbayev said Monday.

Nazarbayev was addressing a meeting of party representatives from the Atyrau, Aktobe, West Kazakhstan and Mangistau regions and party activists from the Aktobe region, KazTAG reports.

"We are a pro-government and powerful party established across the country. The party should lead our country for the next 40-50 years. This has been the case in many independent states. The political situation must be stable during establishment of independence. And there must be one party that works for people, lives for the needs of the people," Nazarbayev said at the meeting in Aktobe.

He stressed the party's need to solve urgent problems facing the state, and to "obtain the approval of the people and win elections."

According to Nazarbayev, the party must pay attention to human resources.

"This spring, at the 12th congress of the party, I set the goal of trainimng party cadres," he said, adding that this task is has not been removed from the agenda.
