Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed an order appointing Malik Murzalin as senior secretary of Kazakhstan's State Agency for Religious Affairs, Kazakh President's official website reported.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed an order appointing Malik Murzalin as senior secretary of Kazakhstan's State Agency for Religious Affairs, Kazakh President's official website reported.

Prior to his appointment Murzalin served as head of the presidential administrative department office head. He previously served as head of North Kazakhstan region's akim office, deputy akim of North Kazakhstan region, and deputy head of central office of NDP Nur Otan.

Agency for Religious Affairs was established in May 2011 by a presidential decree as a result of reorganization of the Culture Ministry. Agency for Religious Affairs has authorities in the field of inter-religious harmony, ensuring citizens' rights to freedom of religion and interaction with religious associations.

In early June, former Kazakh ambassador to Saudi Arabia Lama Sharif Kairat was appointed as chairman of the Agency.
