The elections in Kazakhstan were legitimate, free and open, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's (SCO) Observation Mission's statement says on Monday.

"The elections took place in a calm and businesslike atmosphere," the statement says.

The mission believes that technical shortages revealed in the elections, in general, could have no significant impact on their overall results.

Observers of political parties, public associations, non-profit organizations of Kazakhstan, as well as several international organizations were at all polling stations visited by the SCO representatives.

"The SCO mission has not received complaints and remarks on the electoral process from these observers," the statement says.

All political partiest that submitted lists of candidates for MPs were provided with equal conditions for campaigning, the statement says.

The elections in Kazakhstan were held on Jan.15. According to preliminary data, the party received 80.74 percent of the votes, Ak Zhol - 7.46 percent, and the Communist Party - 7.2 percent.
