The state of emergency in Zhanaozen in the Mangistau region will not be extended, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev said today at a joint session of the Kazakh Parliament, making annual address to the nation.

Mass riots hit the Kazakh oil town of Zhanaozen on Dec.16 killing 16 and injuring more than 100 people. Buildings and cars were burned and property of individuals and legal bodies destroyed. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev declared a state of emergency in Zhanaozen until Jan.31.

At present, the regional authorities are taking measures to normalize the situation in the city, as well as employ fired oil workers.
