New Head of Internal Affairs Office appointed in Kazakh Zhanaozen

A new Head of Internal Affairs Office appointed in Kazakh city of Zhanaozen, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported referring to regional newspaper Aktau-Lada.

A Police Colonel, the former chief of staff of the Mangistau region internal affairs department Amangeldy Dosahanov was appointed to this post.

A lieutenant colonel of police Zhumasan Zhamansariev, who worked earlier in Beyneusk Interior Affaires Department was appointed as Zhanaozen Deputy Chief of Internal Affairs Office. Police Major Kuanysh Esengeldiev, who served earlier as deputy chief of Munaylinskiy district Interior Affaires Department became the second Deputy Chief of Zhanaozen Internal Affairs Office.

Police Major Satkanov Rustam, who earlier headed the Investigation Department of Aktau Internal Affairs Office was appointed to the post of Deputy Chief of Zhanaozen Internal Affairs Office is the investigation sphere.

Mass riots hit the Kazakh oil city of Zhanaozen in Mangystau region on Dec.16. According to Kazakh General Attorney Office, 14 people were killed as a result and 64 were injured by fire. Buildings and cars were burned and property of individuals and legal bodies destroyed. A state of emergency was imposed in Zhanaozen since Dec.17 to Jan 30. The riots were preceded by many months' strike of oil companies' employees dissatisfied with their wages.

Prosecutor General's Office found that in some cases police officers actions were not within law.

"They used weapons illegally, causing deaths and injuries,"Attorney General said.

Some criminal proceedings were instituted against heads of Mangistau region's Internal Affairs Office departments following this incident.
