Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev ordered the government to set up a new national holiday - Defender of the Fatherland Day, Kazakh presidential press-service reported.

"I order the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan to submit a draft law on making amendments to the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan" to the Parliament, which envisage setting up May 7 as a new national holiday - Defender of the Fatherland Day," Nazarbayev said.

On May 7, 2012 the Armed Forces of independent Kazakhstan celebrate the 20th anniversary.

On the eve of the 20th anniversary of the Armed Forces President Nazarbayev congratulated veterans, military personnel, as well as all Kazakh people on this significant date.

"I wish all Kazakh people peaceful sky over head, prosperity, well-being and new achievements for the good of our country - the Republic of Kazakhstan," the President said.
