The fire in Bekzhan market place which hit an area of 4,000 square meters was provoked by arson. A criminal case was filed on the fact, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported with the reference to South Kazakhstan region's department of Internal Affairs.
"South Kazakhstan region's department of Internal Affairs filed criminal case under article 187 of the Criminal Code 'Intentional destruction of another's property. It has been determined that the fire in the market "Bekzhan" arose as a consequence of deliberate arson," the department said.
Large fire hit the largest market place Bekzhan in Kazakh city of Shymkent on August 3. The fire killed one Kyrgyz citizen and destroyed 7,000 shops. 7,000-8,000 people have suffered material damage.
