Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 31 / Trend E. Kosolapova /

The floating drilling rig '60 years to Azerbaijan', sank nearly 30 years ago in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea and threatens the safety of navigation within a one mile radius, the Kazakh transport prosecutor's office said today.

"Gas of an unknown origin is being discovered in the area of the sunken rig," the office said after a meeting.

The issues of using the legislation aimed at ensuring the safety of navigation were discussed.

The drilling rig '60 years to Azerbaijan' sank in 1983.

A decision was made following the meeting that the act of the prosecutor's office's control about eliminating the violations of law was sent to the Kazakh government.

The authorised bodies have the task to implement a set of effective organisational and practical measures to ensure the safety of shipping and strengthen control over the activity of the territorial units.

Transport prosecutors have been charged with improving control in this area, ensuring strict control over the elimination of all revealed violations of the law.
